Sleigh Bells, Brooklyn, NY & Florida
The Brooklyn duo getting all the buzz at CMJ, Sleigh Bells is made up of former hardcore producer, songwriter and guitar player Derek Miller and the magnetic singer Alexis Krauss, a former Bronx public school teacher.
Miller elaborates on how the two hooked up: "I actually met her at the restaurant where I worked. Last year, she came into the restaurant with her mom. I was waiting on her. The whole reason I came to New York was to find a female vocalist. I had nothing else going on. I was barbacking in Florida. One of my good friends lives up here, and I wasn't really having any luck down there, so I just came up. And any girl that I met, I immediately asked them if they were a singer. Most of the time the girls just assumed I was hitting on them and didn't really take me seriously. Alexis was the first one that took it seriously. It was ridiculous because I was her waiter, writing my email down and giving it to her and saying, "It really is about music. I have some stuff, and I would love to play it for you." It was her mom who pointed out that she was a vocalist. She was kind of drunk. It was really very lucky that she turned out to be a really great person and is now a really great friend of mine."
Sleigh Bells has yet to sign a record deal but let's hope something is in the works as anticipation is building for the spirited duo.
